Our structure
Athene Mentoring is designed to be a cascading mentoring program, where women at one qualification level are supported by women at the next higher level: bachelor students are mentored by master’s students, master’s students by doctoral students, doctoral students by women in the postdoc phase and postdocs by group leaders and professors.
Three-monthly network meetings of mentors and mentees build the foundation and encourage cross-cascade help and support.
Mentors attend a compulsory workshop to train skills for building fruitful mentoring relationships and to deepen their knowledge of women's situation in academic life and gender competences.
Athene Mentoring includes participants acting as both mentors and mentees, organised as either group or 1-2-1 mentoring. Yet, it is also possible to join the Athene Mentoring program as a mentee or mentor only.

Your Benefit
Mentors as well as mentees will receive recognition for their commitment and work in form of proof of achievements, documenting credit point equivalents for students and teaching achievements for lecturers.
Mentees
During their studies and qualifications, women encounter structural problems that are often perceived as individual problems, but in actuality are structural problems all women face. Athene mentoring will allow mentees to reflect on this situation, share experiences with others and learn strategies to cope. As a mentee, you also have the opportunity to become a mentor in the Athene Mentoring program and an active member of our network.
Mentors
Female mentors have similar advantages to mentees, since they pass on and reflect on experiences as women in science. Mentors strengthen their own awareness and further develop leadership and advisory skills.
